Surgical Services at Mercy Medical Center Merced
The Surgery Department at
Mercy has four operating room suites, and they perform an
average of 350 procedures a month.
General surgery procedures completed at Mercy
include anything from a simple hernia repair to the high tech Lap
Choles. We have the latest generation of scopes and equipment with
which to remove a gall bladder. As is standard across the country,
we rarely fully open the abdomen to perform this procedure, but
rather operate through a scope, making several small incisions
in the abdomen; frequently called "Band-Aid surgery" or "minimally
invasive surgery."
Orthopedic surgery includes everything from a
child's broken bone to the hip or knee that needs replacing. Ear,
Nose and Throat (ENT) services at Mercy advance as we continue to
purchase state of the art technology. Gynecological procedures have
taken a similar leap. Urology services continue to provide a full
range of Urologic procedures as well as Lithotripsy, and Laser
surgical procedures. Surgery department also supports cardiac
services by implanting pacemakers. Mercy also provides the ability
to perform a variety of thoracic, vascular, and cosmetic
procedures.
The Dominician Campus
Endoscopy department has four fully equipped Endoscopy suites
with the latest in Pentax Video fiber-optic
equipment. They serve our community by diagnosing and treating
problems of the gastrointestinal tract. We have completely
remodeled the Dominican Campus area and are now able to transfer
computerized images for instant access for physician diagnosis. The
staff can now view the procedure easily with the physician and a
picture can be printed to document in the chart and show the
patient. Bronchoscopies, a visualization of the throat and lungs
through a scope, are also performed in this lab. Mercy was the
first in Merced to have the video technology for this procedure.
Endoscopy services are also availble at the Community Campus on
13th street.
In following Mercy's commitment to those we
serve, our physicians and staff continually attend conferences to
learn the latest techniques available.
