Mercy Hospital's Sleep Disorder Lab has earned
the highest accreditation for evaluating sleep related breathing
disorders by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Mercy remains
to operate the only accredited sleep lab from Stockton to
Visalia.
Our professional staff and Medical Director
Dr. Sunit Patel are experienced in assessing and treating sleep
related breathing disorders. Dr. Patel, a Board Certified Physician
in Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep Medicine, and Internal Medicine,
is the only Board Certified Sleep Specialist from Stockton to
Visalia.
Studies have shown that sleep disorders have
become increasingly recognized in the last decade. In fact,
eighty-eight sleep disorders have been acknowledged. Common sleep
disorders such as snoring, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs
syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, insomnia and parasomnia
can be evaluated at Mercy's Sleep Lab.
Mercy's Sleep Lab consists of three
well-designed bedroom suites, which have all the comforts of home.
Across from the suites is the monitoring center, which has of a
state-of-the-art computer system. In the monitoring center, the
sleep lab technician monitors important indicators of sleep,
including EEG, EKG, EMG, respiratory movement, respiratory flow,
oxygen saturation, snoring, eye movement and circadian rhythm. The
sleep lab technician reviews and prepares the data through the
computerized scoring system for review. Then, Dr. Patel evaluates
the test results and recommends treatment options for the
patient.
