Mercy Hospital's Sleep Disorder Lab has earned the highest accreditation for evaluating sleep related breathing disorders by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Mercy remains to operate the only accredited sleep lab from Stockton to Visalia.

Our professional staff and Medical Director Dr. Sunit Patel are experienced in assessing and treating sleep related breathing disorders. Dr. Patel, a Board Certified Physician in Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep Medicine, and Internal Medicine, is the only Board Certified Sleep Specialist from Stockton to Visalia.

Studies have shown that sleep disorders have become increasingly recognized in the last decade. In fact, eighty-eight sleep disorders have been acknowledged. Common sleep disorders such as snoring, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, insomnia and parasomnia can be evaluated at Mercy's Sleep Lab.

Mercy's Sleep Lab consists of three well-designed bedroom suites, which have all the comforts of home. Across from the suites is the monitoring center, which has of a state-of-the-art computer system. In the monitoring center, the sleep lab technician monitors important indicators of sleep, including EEG, EKG, EMG, respiratory movement, respiratory flow, oxygen saturation, snoring, eye movement and circadian rhythm. The sleep lab technician reviews and prepares the data through the computerized scoring system for review. Then, Dr. Patel evaluates the test results and recommends treatment options for the patient.
