Out patient Surgical, Diagnostic Services
Mercy Surgical and Diagnostic Center (MSDC)
is a free-standing ambulatory surgery and diagnostic center
operating in Merced since 1988.
The radiology department operates 3
mammography rooms, 2 general radiology rooms and 2 ultrasound
rooms. All radiology technicians are licensed and the department is
accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Electrocardiograms (EKGs) are also available. The radiology
department performs over 800 mammograms each month. A draw station
is available in the facility for diagnostic laboratory studies.
The surgery department, which began operation
in 1989, is accredited by the Accreditation Association of
Ambulatory Health Care Inc. (AAAHC). There are 3 operating rooms
and 1 procedure room available for a variety of surgical and
non-surgical patients. A caring staff of Registered Nurses
and Surgical Technologists provide top-notch quality care to
approximately 200 patients a month who visit the department for
procedures such as cataract extractions, breast biopsies, knee
arthroscopies and hernia repairs. Because of the nature of
ambulatory surgery centers, family members are an important part of
care. Relatives are able to accompany the patient into the
pre-operative room and are joined with the patient in the Post
Anesthesia Care Unit following the procedure. A pain clinic also
operates within the surgery department.
